Motion Design has a history of being in volved in research projects. Even today, research and development is an important part of our business, and is a vital part in staying at the cutting edge of technology.
Research for Government Agencies
Much of the past research was completed for Meat New Zealand Limited in conjunction with both Industrial Research Limited and AgResearch Limited. Throughout the years, this research has forced Motion Design to learn and to overcome new challenges. This research has spawned various robotic products and software tools.
One of the tools that Motion Design have developed as a result of research is a software modeling package for meat processing plants. This is a very extensive software package that allows plant managers to replicate or build a virtual meat processing plant and analyse throughput, worker utilization and bottle necks. The potential financial benefit of having such tools available is enormous. These tools are ideal for displaying the benefits of automation and robotics in the production line.
Internal R&D
Motion Design also devotes a large portion of its resources to internal research. The following projects are always under continual development and constant improvement:

—Robust real-time Linux-based controller for IT and machine control.
Linux research
—Maximising the use of Linux in control systems.
Software tools/utilities
—Developing software to control and communicate with external devices.
